About Clare
I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and have since lived in the UK before moving to the Pacific North-West, near Seattle with my three boys in 2009.
I have lived on FOUR continents in FOUR decades. This has given me a global perspective and unique understanding of universal truths.
I started to lead as a very young child and I must have been quite a hand-ful. I was strong-willed but very enthusiastic to learn and participate in everything from a very young age. By the time I was seventeen, I had already held numerous leadership positions in my school and community. I was destined to run my own companies.
I am a serial entrepreneur and multi-tasking woman. I started out early in my career providing financial services to small businesses in South Africa. I am passionate about assisting others to fulfill their potential and I am a strong connector.
I have started up and developed four businesses in South Africa and in the UK in accounting and tax services, property management, credit collection and a health clinic. My current business in global wellness marketing and sales is my fifth entrepreneurial venture!
What made me do it?
I have been unemplyable most of my adult life. South Africa where I grew up is a very entrepreneurial country and I was taught to be self-reliant from an early age. For the past 24 years, I have not collected a salary. I have consulted to corporations and run my own companies. Before moving to the US, I ran a top alternative health clinic just south of London, specializing in the link between toxicity and chronic diseases.
What was my original aha moment?
My journey to entrepreneurship was driven by my rebellious nature and attitude to conformity. I always wanted to do things differently, this didn’t sit well with my bosses at work. It wasn’t so much “thinking outside of the box” but removing the box altogether.
I started out providing financial services to small companies because I had a financial degree and I could add immediate value.
What was running through my head when I started up?
The only thing running through my head was the thought that I didn’t want a boss telling me what to do. I wanted to be in a position of no-one being able to fire me. I quickly learned that I had to market my services and I found this initially difficult. Once I broke through, my reputation and word-of-mouth started to work for me and business came to me really easily. Then I learned that having staff and growing my organisation was not fun. Being bigger is not necessarily better. I learned many painful lessons of having staff and managing them rather than building relationships with my clients.
What past experiences have helped me to take this fast route to masochism?
My current business is my fifth. What I have learned from all these experiences is that if you give more value than expected and truly care for the people both inside and outside your organisation, you will create more business than you can handle. One of the key lessons I have learned is to price my services effectively. It took years for me to learn that my time is worth more than I think.
What big failures have I had in the past and how have they helped me to get to where I am today?
Entreprenuers learn from failures. We bring our own personal junk into our business and this can be very costly. I am a recovering self-sabateur. I should have learned marketing and sales early on and it would have made a significant difference to my results. I am a passionate person who loves to bring value to others. Sales is the highest paid profession in the world for good reason. The most successful entrepreneurs are those who have learned to share their stories wtih others in the most effective way.
If you are looking for a straightforward leader who has teamed up with a 30 year veteran of the Network Marketing Industry, then I am your person. I am building a global wellness leadership team and I am putting together a network across the globe so that teams are able to work both globally online using the latest technology and locally in meet-ups. This is the best of networking today.
