What has Leadership got to do with your Work From Home Business?

Much has been written about the keys to Home Business success and having been involved in leadership for a long time, I was fascinated to learn what makes someone successful in their own Home Business? Is Home Business different from other industries with it comes to leadership and success?

I have been around Home Business Owners and Network Marketers for the past three years and I have met many different types of people in this arena. Network Marketing is unusual in that it doesn’t turn away anyone provided you pay your entrance fees and auto-ship requirements. It attracts many people who have failed in other businesses and who have been led to believe that this is the road paved to easy riches.

It is this myth of easy riches that drives such a high percentage of failure. However, Network Marketing also creates more Millionaires than any other industry today and many famous entrepreneurs have stated that they would have turned to Network Marketing had they needed to start again. These people include Robert Kiyosaki, Richard Branson and Donald Trump.

So is being a Leader necessary for Network Marketing Success? Firstly, let’s consider some success stories in Network Marketing such as Eric Worre, Buck Reed, Randy Shroeder and Randy Gage amongst thousands of others. What do these people have in common?

Here are my observations:
1. They are empathic listeners. They listen to their teams and give constructive feedback when necessary.
2. They lead by example and each one of them is building a business actively. Their teams can observe their daily discipline and attention to their business.
3. They are teachers and share what they know. They don’t hold back their knowledge. This is a crucial element to leadership.
4. They are not judgmental and welcome anyone to their team who is coachable and wants to learn.
5. They are consistent in their actions.
6. They are available. This is an incredible attribute of a leader. There is a saying in life: “ask a busy person” and this is definitely true of successful network marketers. If you show a genuine interest in learning, they will make themselves available to listen and help.
7. They are decisive action takers. They decide on a path and stick to it. They show themselves to be unafraid of failure and I am yet to meet a TRULY successful Network Marketer who has not had their fair share of failure. Leaders just know that failure is the route to success.
8. They are goal and task oriented. No matter how successful leaders become, they strive for higher and higher goals. These goals tend to become philanthropic as their success grows and this is a true mark of a leader.
9. They keep the topic off themselves and you will find them to be very humble people.
10. They edify and validate those around them who have contributed to their success.
11. They are true team-players and understand the power of synergy and how the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
12. They are positive and encouraging to others.
13. They are confident in everything they do but stop short at displaying cockiness.
14. They are skilled at what they do and continue to refine their skills for continuous improvement.

I am sure that you get the picture. A leader is definitely someone you want to hang with. As the saying goes: “hang with those who have what you seek, not what you already have”. So seek out leaders in network marketing, observe them, model them and learn from them.

In conclusion, I would say that not only is leadership a fundamental principle of Network Marketing success but it is a critical element. Whatever your background, if you want to succeed in your own home based business, you first need to seek out the leadership that will identify with you, motivate you and inspire you because it is a road full of bumps and obstacles, not paved with gold. However, should you follow this course, you will find the home based industry to be the most rewarding leadership training ground.
