Acting on a Prompting

Do you ever get promptings? What is a prompting, you may ask?

I first heard about the concept of promptings from Kody Bateman who has written an insightful and inspirational book on the subject.

Kody is the founder of a greeting card company and he is always encouraging everyone to act on their promptings as a result of ignoring a prompting many years ago that totally changed his life. A prompting is a strong nudge from your intuition, your inner self or a higher power to take action. This action could be a phone call, writing a card or visiting someone.

Last week I got a prompting. It was the strongest inner feeling to take up an offer to visit a friend in Scottsdale, Arizona. I am so glad that I did. I had the chance to relax, reflect on my current life’s circumstances and gain a perspective on matters that I could not have done remaining at home.

I am a mom to three young boys alongside running my home-based business. All in all, it is a frenetically busy life and it is difficult to gain perspective when I am constantly running at full-speed.

I had never visited Arizona and I was blown away by the red sand, big skies and the wonderful light. It was truly magical and reminded me of my child-hood spent in Africa. It has given me renewed energy to take actions at home that will enable me to become a more fulfilled and significant person. I have already set some decisions in motion that are destined to alter my future course.

So, when that time comes and you get a nagging nudge from within – take action. Don’t process or analyze too much. Promptings are a nudge from a higher power to take a step towards your destiny. When you are tuned into your inner self, you are able to make a greater difference to others and lead a more fulfilled life. Promptings will assist you to be the unique human spirit you are meant to be and be an inspiration to others. You will build better relationships and have more fun. There is something really sweet about taking spontaneous action with others and feeling their joy at your intuitive responses.

Kody discusses the differences between outer and inner promptings and this is particularly relevant as it pertains to mothers. We often do things based on our children’s desires and put them before ourselves. He brings up the analogy of the oxygen mask on an airplane – you are required to put the mask on yourself before you put it on your child. I am sure many mothers find this concept a challenge. I know I do.

For a more in-depth exploration of promptings, I highly recommend that you read Kody’s book “Promptings”.

Enjoy! Experience the joy of freedom when you tune into your promptings!

Sounds like a book I have to read Clare…great post! food for thought even when I am not a “mother” of a human child. :) Can't wait to hear more about your time in Arizona…I love it there! Sedona is a favorite!

I call that intuition. Following your intuition and the “promptings” it gives you is the easiest way to live giving you nudges to adjust your course through life.
